  • TUPPERWARE FOR AMMO

I have a wee bit of ammo that is going on 20 yrs of age . Once in a blue moon we take some of the older stuff and shoot it . Have not had any problems . Might I suggest that TUPPERWARE is also an excellent container . I did not type a cheap knock off brand or rubbermaid ... It is watertight and waterproof . And not all plastics are the same - ask someone who took Chemistry ... The smaller 6 X 6 X 4 rectangular boxes can hold a 3 calibler assortment of up to 300 rounds .. This can provide a quick gotta grab and go box ... fits in the glove box where that 50 cal ammo can will not ..... or in your large coat pocket .........
  • diamonds and ammo. they both last forever.
    • Ammo isn't digital. It does not work one day and not the next. As it grows older, it will simply diminish in performance as the powder and priming material breaks down. Ammo gets smokier as it ages, loses it's oomph, starts to hit a little lower.

Properly stored, 22 ammo should last 40+ years ans still shoot well enough to take game (with a slight adjustment of the sights.)

I store my ammo in a ammo can with a fist sized bag of dessicant. About every 2-3 years I pull out the dessicants and bake them for 8 hours at 150-200 degrees to dry them out. Store ammo in a cool, dry place. heat accelerates the breakdown of powder. Also, avoid buying Russian 22 surplus. It tends to have a lot of bullet lube that fouls the primers.
      • I had no idea there was any such thing as russian .22 surplus

I'm not a good enough shooter to be able to tell the difference in performance of my .22 ammo by how old it is. Or maybe I don't shoot from long enough ranges. I only notice when the gun goes 'click' and the ammo doesn't respond. I guess for me, ammo IS digital

I've used turkish Mauser ammo that was crimped in 1935 and still works with perfect reliability, and for the life of me I cannot tell any difference in 'oomph' or performance as compared to my many other loadings. Except for the yugo ammo, made in the mid '70's. The ones with the annealed cases and copper jacketed 196 grain boat-tails.... those things kick like a bastard compared to everything else and I even get extraction problems.
