I finally bought myself a copy of "Where There Is No Doctor: A Village Healthcare Handbook" by David Werner. I can't wait to get it home and get out my highlighter. It was written for relief workers and covers treatment of all sorts of injuries and diseases, including leprosy, bullet wounds, and snakebite. Even good instructions for assisting a complicated birth. It also lists the best drugs to treat conditions so you could maybe do some checking at a veterinary supply house to see if there were any you could get your hands on that way. Now I need to get the three companion volumes that cover women's healthcare, dentistry, and veterinary medicine.
Definitely a must for the reference library.

Thu, April 24, 2008 - 8:26 PMI took a sneak peek at the dentistry book and the page that came up was one about scaling someone's teeth. Veeeery useful information. -

Re: New book!
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 8:36 PMI'll have to get that whole set. Like I said, the wife is letting me put 100% of the tax returns (which came back pretty nice for someone in my income bracket) towards contingiency preparation. It's a really fun time for me, to be able to just go out and pick up all kinds of things whenever I want them. I feel like a teen aged girl at the mall with Dad's credit card.
