Mon, April 28, 2008 - 9:23 PMSo is it final, NM?
Well just so you know, if you need anyone to help pack/unpack, I'm very glad that I am safely in between destinations, too far from either spot to lend a hand with the heavy lifting ;-P

Tue, April 29, 2008 - 1:15 PMI'd gladly help, but I haven't got a car that is running, the money for a plane ticket, I'm too big and ugly to hitch hike, heck I can't even afford a bus ticket. So I guess you're on your own. -

Re: Sorry!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 7:01 PMeeew You lived in oakland? I've been there one time, hauling stuff to an office depot distribution center or something like that. I was driving around lost when I saw an industrial area with truck's lined up on the road's so I thought I'd pull in and ask direction's from somebody. I parked behind another truck and walked up to talk to the driver and there were 4 men in their underwear hopping around in that one truck. 4 that I could see anyway. I was terrified. that was the last time I went to oakland. -

Re: Sorry!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 9:38 PMIt was a job transfer. My job being, I'm the guy who goes to all the bad neighborhoods and makes sure your alarm system is working right, or fixes it if some burglar tries to smash it with a hammer or something. I've had two guns pulled on me in the course of this job, and I've been directly threatened and also warned many times. They have ALL been in black neighborhoods, and the reason for the hate was my white skin.
Oakland, at least the area I was in, was not much of an exception. One look around and I could see I had the wrong color skin, once again. I thought about leaving my wife at home, alone, all day long while I would be out and about. That idea lasted for three days, then when I was leaving for work one day, a five-squad-car police chase ended at my complex (a supposedly safe, 'gated' complex.. The fugitive jumped out of his car, over the gate, and into the complex looking for a door to kick in or a place to hide or a hostage to take, to try to escape the cops.
I asked for a transfer, the position in Washington opened up after about three weeks, I left literally within half an hour of finding out. Just threw everything into the car and headed out, I didn't want to give anyone a chance to reconsider.
I wouldn't shed any tears if all of bay area was swallowed up in the sea. -

Re: Sorry!
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 8:45 PMYou go through an interesting through process when you witness a running felon dissappear into your apartment building where your young wife is at home alone and not dressed yet in the morning, and suddenly you realize that this guy, if he kicks in the right door, will have full access to your guns and your wife before you can get back to him.... You are helpless, and he has all the cards, including YOURS... and the fine fellow citizens around you are all fervently passing laws to make it even moreso that way.
Even the people at the gun range were totally cowed into the mentality that they have to apologize to everyone for owning guns, and exhuberantly comply with every local gun law and restriction. That place is so ass backwards and inside-out, it really belongs upside down in the ocean. -
