As Kathy the moderator states " a place to share secrets " ........so here goes ......... PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ILLEGAL ( in NJ anyway ) in the re sale of the vehicle unless stated the airbag is gone so being sold " as is " .............. my glove box is to small for a CB radio ........ I figure I will take out the passenger side airbag as the plastic cover looks pretty big therefore plenty of room .........well it was to small for a CB but there is plenty of room for some extra goodies ........ with a single edge razor blade I gently cut the seam .......it popped off easy ........ removed the airbag and gas canister .... there is a metal frame for the air bag space .... but ... since there are openings to the sides and bottom which would allow things to fall through i cut cardboard for the sides and bottom ( also the top just to make it even and neat ) - used duct tape on the seams .......... for the outside cover I bought a velcro kit consisting of about 8 pieces of velcro 6 " long ........ I cut the velcro to fit on the stubs top and bottom and full length for each side ....... virtually undetectable as 3 friends in LE couldn' t figure out what I did till I got my finger nails on the top seam and popped off the " air bag dash board cover " ........ how's that for sharing a secret Kathy ...................... crazy joe

THE ANTENNA
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 6:14 PMhowdy sean , the antenna is outside on the front right fender but should you be wondering about the antenna cable running into the dash - it runs behind the metal framing that holds the airbag and gas cannister ........... and for the engineers out there .........the air bag space on my dash is 13 inches long - 6 inches high - bottom is 5 inches deep and top is 4 1/2 inches deep ....... at present this added space holds extra headlight bulbs , fuses , a hand held collapsing telescope 12 X which is 6 inches when closed , stick matches , fishing hooks and line , 1 box (50) 38 cal. , one pencil mag light , one magnesium sparky strikey thing to make fire , flat tire plug kit with 3 plugs.................... there is still plenty of room for other small things ............. I have shown this to 2 members of the county sheriffs dept , 1 former FBI agent and I guess about 9 local police and it is ok ..........they already know I am crazy -

Re: THE ANTENNA
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 7:24 PMANOTHER tip for hidden in-vehicle cache, this one's not illegal, depending of course, as with all caches, on what you place inside it and whether you're legally qualified to own and/or conceal said object:
If you've got a truck with a bench seat, remove the cover for the seat. Cut a slit along the entire front edge of the 'sit on' part of the bench, and have your wife sew a zipper into that whole length. Re-install the cover onto your seat, open the zipper, and cut a slit into the foam cushion of the bench seat. Remove enough foam to make as near as possible to a snug fit for your truck gun.
Tactically smarter, you can now access your gun without having to get out and fold the back of the seat forward to get to the gun behind the seat, or reach over the seat and reveal your weapon before you want to or need to. Safer from break-in and thievery when some punk busts in to steal your CB and checks behind the seat for goodies while he's in there. and guaranteed not to leave an opening for a vehicle search based on the 'plainview' clause when the cops comb your vehicle through the windows with a maglight. -

Re: RIFLE SEAT CASE
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 10:57 AMthats pretty slick. I might give that a try after I make some measurements. Do you have any problem with moisture or condensation? My old truck is dewy in the morning. -

Re: RIFLE SEAT CASE
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 4:43 PMdewy on the inside? like dewy on the seat? You may have rust problems if that's the case. I don't know about your truck, but mine has windows, and they roll up. that'll solve your problem right there.
Make sure you check your seat guts too. Some are full of metal springs, others have more foam to work with. Mine's an old chevy half ton, so the seat is like a giant marshmallow. You can still do it in a spring-filled seat, you just have to be more picky about the placement of your pocket, you may have to place it in the top-edge of the front side of the sit-down part, and sew a 'pocket' in there, so the gun doesn't slide on it's side *into* the seat, but rather rides snug along the front edge of the seat, just under the cover of the seat, with just enough foam hollowed out so that it can fit without printing.
Also, I guess it should be noted my 'truck gun' is lever-action, which has a nice flat reciever, just about perfect for this kind of application. Having a bolt handle sticking off to the side of the action might complicate things, I'm not sure.
